![]() Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don't want it any more.Excerpted from Effective defenses against malware and other threats - Apple Community, ![]() Those things are categorically worthless - which is to say they provide no benefit, while at the same time they destabilize a Mac, burden it unnecessarily, and permit a greater exposure to threats. That Mac has also been affected by a number of questionable alterations including but not limited to some kind of non-Apple "anti-virus" utility. Perform those same equivalent actions with Google Chrome. ![]() Fixing it may be as simple as resetting Firefox's home page, and / or by restoring Firefox's default settings. Nothing installed at the system level is causing that to occur. So then I went to install Firefox, and launching the browser, I get the search-alpha MARQUIS search bar website. ![]() I normally run Malwarebytes but I've tested with this installed, and uninstalled, and that makes no difference - the problem persists.Īnybody got any bright ideas? Is there some hosts file which may have got corrupted which I can flush? I'm at a loss as to how to proceed. In trying to identify the cause, I should mention having used the app SelfControl to block the BBC News website, that block has now expired, but the problem started occurring within a couple of days after that however, I’ve done everything related to the app that I can (including reinstalling, following all guidelines, and subsequently deleting) but the problem persists, so I’m not sure if that has anything to do with the problem or not. Interestingly, if I turn on my VPN service on my MacBook Pro (I use NordVPN) then the sites work perfectly via the VPN, but not when it is turned off. Other devices connected to my network have no problem reaching the same URLs. It's unable to send the GET request and my "Zone" is set to "eu-localhosT" and the backend is reading my requests like I am in Europe. The app sets a "Zone" parameter that should send an (OPTIONS) and then a GET request to the backend. I noticed that I have an issue with running a front end application on localhost from my Chrome browser. Then I booted in safemode and reinstalled Ventura OS 13.3.1 (I have an M1 macbook). I have tried to remove some suspicious files running as processes taking up resources on Activity Monitor as well the above mentioned folders.
